Our History

Almost 85 years ago, the May family founded their first business here. For the first 50 years of the Evel-Gada Corporation, the focus was on growing, processing and distributing popcorn to festivals, schools, churches, stadiums and many other venues. However the big break came with Hills Department Store, which we supplied for 40 years.

The Hummel Gift Shop, a division of the Evel-Gada Corp., was opened in the mid 70s. It was a modest little room that was chock-full of only one thing… Hummel figurines! We soon outgrew that room, so our Red room was built and filled with… Hummel figurines!

Over the next few years, we added the Gallery, Mezzanine, and American Heritage Room and our Big Top room. Then in the late 80s, we introduced the Christmas Wonderland and Santa’s Magic Rooms.  Here our designers outdo themselves with award-winning Christmas trees.

At this point the original Hummel Room was completely gutted, walls were moved, and new ceiling, new floor and new wrap-around display cabinets were installed. Now we have one of the most beautiful “Precious Moments” Galleries, with over 2000 pieces available for gifts and collecting.

Having the title as “Ohio’s Largest and Finest Gift Shop”, and being named by the Governor as “Ohio’s outstanding tourist attraction and destination, plus receiving Better Business Bureau’s first Torch Award for Business Ethic, means we have much to live up to as Ohio’s Hummel Gift Shop.
